Projects

Gas Station-Lynchburg, VA

Greene became involved with the project following the discovery of gasoline contamination during during the removal of the site’s petroleum Underground Storage Tanks (USTs).  Nearly 1,000 tons of gasoline contaminated soils were removed from the ground during Initial Abatement Activities.  Groundwater monitoring wells were installed at the site during multiple Site Characterization and Reporting  (SCR) phases.  Subsequent to encountering free phase gasoline contamination within multiple monitoring wells, Greene developed the Corrective Action Plan (CAP) to address the contamination and achieve remediation endpoints.  The CAP employed long term implementation of dual phase extraction (DPE) remediation equipment to recover the approximately 35,000 pounds of subsurface gasoline contamination.  Having achieved the long-term remediation endpoints through CAP Implementation, Greene is currently transitioning the site towards final closure.

Gas Station-Scottsburg, VA

Greene became involved with the project when questions arose concerning the former gasoline UST system during a potential property transaction.  During the initial site assessment, gasoline contamination was discovered in connection with the former UST system.  The site has been adequately characterized through the installation of multiple groundwater monitoring wells.  Based on the information obtained during site characterization activities and subsequent sampling events, Greene expects to develop a site specific Corrective Action Plan (CAP) during the 3rd quarter of 2012.

Gas Station-Martinsville, VA

Greene became involved with the project when multiple compliance issues were noted during a Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) inspection.  Greene liased with the DEQ on behalf of the client and was able to negotiate an acceptable Letter of Agreement between the client and the DEQ.  The out of non-compliant UST system was temporarily closed until an agreement could be met for permanent closure.  The site is now registered as permanently closed following documented removal of the UST system.

Gas Station-Altavista, VA

Following the discovery formerly unknown USTs during a property demolition, Greene was contacted to provide regulatory guidance in moving forward with the demolition project.  Petroleum contamination was discovered and approximately 200 tons of contaminated soils were removed from the site for disposal.  Removal of the contaminated soils resulted in site closure thus eliminating any future liability for the current owner.

Gas Station-Blacksburg, VA

Greene became involved with the project during the negotiations activities prior to the successful property transfer.  Greene provided regulatory guidance to all involved parties, performed a rapid turnaround Phase II Environmental Site Assessment, and provided a turn key solution for the documented removal of regulated USTs and gasoline contaminated soils.  Over 350 tons of contaminated soil was removed from the site during UST Closure activities and the DEQ has issued a No Further Action (NFA) Letter, thus releasing the site from further study.  The current owner has proceeded with development plans ahead of schedule.

Public School System-Southside, VA

Greene was awarded a bid contract to provide the Public School System with the turn-key removal of multiple out-of-use heating oil USTs at multiple facilities.  Greene coordinated with local and state officials as well as School System employees and local utilities providers to successfully complete the project on schedule and under budget.

Residence-Roanoke, VA

Greene was contacted by a concerned homeowner after they decided to list their childhood home for sale.  There had been a history of issues with the heating oil UST resulting in the installation of a new aboveground storage tank.  Based on the results of the heating oil tank assessment, Greene determined that the out-of-use UST was leaking and qualified the homeowner for access to the Virginia Petroleum Storage Tank Fund (VPSTF).  The UST was emptied of its remaining product and sludge and it was removed from the ground.  Approximately 45 tons of contaminated soils were removed from the site and the excavation zone was repaired and reseeded.  The site has now been closed from further study.

Residence-Lynchburg, VA

Prior to making an investment in the residence’s landscaping, the homeowner contacted Greene concerning the removal of an out-of-use heating oil UST.  During the assessment of the UST, Greene determined that a reportable release had occurred and was able to qualify the homeowner for access to the VPSTF.  The UST and approximately 20 tons of contaminated soils were removed from the property.  The site was restored to better than before condition and the property owner was able to proceed with the landscaping improvements.

Greene has completed numerous other projects at commercial and residential properties throughout the state.
