Residential

After homeowner authorization, Greene Environmental provides the comprehensive services needed to complete a job, including initial inspection of the underground storage tank (UST) to determine if there is a leak.

If NO leak is found: Greene Environmental will provide the homeowner with a certification report and there is no further obligation.

If a leak is found: Greene Environmental will report its findings to the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality (VDEQ) and obtain authorization for further investigative or cleanup work. Based on VDEQ response, Greene Environmental will secure approval for financial assistance through the Virginia Petroleum Storage Tank Fund (VPSTF) and then perform the necessary corrective work. This work may include:

  • Removal of petroleum from the tank and verification that there are no nearby wells or surface bodies of water;
  • Removal of the tank and excavation of contaminated soils;

If a well or surface water body is threatened by the release, the VDEQ may require a groundwater investigation in order to protect the resources. If a drinking water well has been impacted, the VPSTF provides for water filtration or a new alternative source of water. In either case, personnel from Greene Environmental are trained to handle and properly address the situation, take the required corrective actions, and provide you with a report of activities and findings. The VDEQ will later provide a closure letter for your records.
